Ren's 7/8 blog

Hello parents and students. This is my classroom blog. And I am going to tell you what is happening in our grade ⅞ class.

In our class, we will be doing a math quiz every Friday. We will have practice on Thursdays before Friday. The reason that our teacher does this is so we don’t have to take a big, stressful quiz.

Also, we have started cross-country. In intermediate, we have to run 2.5 kilometers. Our first race is on October 8th.

Every week and a half we will be doing a desk switch and we will get new classroom jobs. Some of the jobs we have in our classroom are handout/collector, tech team, and planner checker.

In French class, our current unit is shopping. We are learning about verbs such as acheter and montrer. We are learning about the conjugation of IR, ER, and RE verbs.

In phys-ed we have been playing soccer. We have also been playing dodgeball-themed mini games.

In music class we got our instruments and we are learning how to play them. We have been playing instruments such as saxophone, flute, bass and regular clarinet, trombone, trumpet, and drums.

The First Classroom Blog Of Year

 Mithran’s Blog

Dear Families and Students,

In our classroom, we have just started the year, so many students are working on diagnostics. We are showing what we know and where we are, so Mrs. Van can get an idea of where we are this year.

Math Diagnostic

In language, we are working on a 'Future Me' assignment, where we write to our future selves, who will be in grade 12. The assignment seems to be fun and joyful, and many students look forward to reading it in grade 12.

Future Me Video Example

In history, we are doing a history assignment, which was about who was the most impactful Historical Event/Person. It could be Martin Luther King Jr., Terry Fox, World War 1, The Great Depression, etc.

Example Of An Impactful Historical Event

In reading, we are reading a book in class, which is called Red Wolf, and we have to write the 6 key events and draw them. We have gotten to Chapter 2 in the book.

The Book We Are Reading

We have just got into science, and we are learning about observing, inference, quantitative data, qualitative data, and the five senses. We are learning the difference between observing and inference, like observing that there is a dinosaur and inference, I think the dinosaur is going to go eat.

In art, we are drawing our silhouette, and our classmates will use our shadow to draw our silhouette. Many students will have a silhouette of themselves with a brain on it. Inside the brain, there would be what we like: hobbies, friends/family, countries, video games, and food. Mrs. Van will take 2 of the silhouettes to the Ilderton fair to display for families to see.

A Example Of A Silhouette

In French, we have a project where we write about ourselves and our partner in French, like our favorite

sport, animal, food, how many siblings we have, etc.

A Students French Project

We are in our soccer unit in Phys Ed as students prepare for soccer tryouts, as our tournament is on September 22. GO COUGARS!!!

Our schedule for basketball and volleyball has been switched, and basketball will be before volleyball.

That is everything that is going on in our school for the first week. I am extremely excited for the basketball season to start. Thank you for listening to this week's blog.

Here We Go!

Here We Go!

For the past 4 years, my students have contributed to a classroom blog. Each week, a different student will be invited to write their "Week in Review" post. The student will know that they will be writing about the week on Friday.

They can include photographs and links to work that was done...with permission of course.

Perhaps it could have categories. I will eventually discuss these with students, but these are a few that have worked well in the past.

There is a rubric that each student will have access to that outlines the success criteria for their blog post. This contributes to their literacy grade.

A Little About Me

The student provides a little information about themselves.

The Best Thing About This Week

The student shares their perspective on the best thing that happened during the week.

The Worst Thing About This Week

Was there something awful about the week? Here is where they can share it.

Mathematic Mentions

A quick update on the math we've done. What strand did we explore? Was there a quality problem that can be shared for others to solve?

Literacy Links

What are we reading? What were we writing about? What is the word of the week? Was there a highlight?

Science, History and Geography

What are we learning about? Are there any links that can be shared from these subjects?

Physical Education & Health

What's going on in gym? What other ways have we been active?

The Arts

Dance? Drama? Visual Art? Music? What's going on here? This would be a great place to showcase things created in class.

Anything goes really. I'll create them through September and then relinquish the responsibility to my creative class.
